QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Monique Taylor (Hamilton Mountain), the NDP Critic for Children, Community and Social Services, issued the following statement after the Ford Conservatives’ surprise procedural move to disrupt her private members’ bill, which was scheduled for debate on Thursday. By delaying second reading, it increases the chance the bill will die before any debate in the Legislature.
Taylor’s bill would allow authorities to issue a new alert when vulnerable people go missing.
“This is a good bill that would help people and their families in times of extreme crisis," said Taylor. "I sincerely hope that this government is not trying to play politics here.
We have received overwhelming support from families who lost vulnerable loved ones after they went missing.
And we will continue to do whatever it takes to win this simple solution for the most vulnerable Ontarians.”
