NDP Statement on Yom HaShoah

Published on April 17, 2023

QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, issued the following statement to mark Yom HaShoah:

“Today, we remember the millions of innocent Jews who were tortured and systematically murdered in the Holocaust, simply for being Jewish.

Yom HaShoah is a day to pause and hold space to reflect on a horrific part of our collective human history, and to remember and honour the six million Jews who were killed in its atrocities. We also acknowledge the intergenerational trauma of the Holocaust that continues to impact Jewish people around the world. With a notable rise in antisemitism risking the safety of Jews today, New Democrats stand firm with Ontario’s Jewish community against this hate.

As we get further from the events of the Holocaust, and as we lose the generation of direct survivors, it is all the more important that we keep their stories alive, and educate future generations about the horrors they endured.

On this day and every day, let’s never forget the inhumane horrors our Jewish brothers, sisters and siblings have had to endure. Let’s always stand shoulder to shoulder with them, and constantly commit to ending xenophobia that puts people's lives, safety and well-being at risk.”
