MPP Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest), Deputy Leader of the Ontario NDP, released the following statement to mark Bengali New Year:
“Today marks the first day of the 1430th Bengali New Year. It’s the day for new beginnings and looking at the present and future with more hope and optimism.
On Bengali New Year, also known as Pohela Boishakh, we come together with family, friends and loved ones to share food, laughter and joy. It’s a time for renewed commitment to progress, prosperity and is celebrated with vibrant colours, traditional Bengali delicacies, parades, and fun cultural events.
The smell of spring and newly blossoming flowers makes Bengali New Year all the more special. This is an occasion that unites the Bangladeshi community across the globe, and I hope that every Bengali celebrating here in Ontario and across the world is able to spend quality time with your loved ones.
May this New Year bring you good health, prosperity and happiness!”
